Why Athletics?

  • Athletics is a sport founded in antiquity – it carries the mantle of the Olympic Games’ number one spectator sport.
  • The sport is not subjective or discriminatory – it’s a body against a body, a mind against a mind.
  • South Africa is a potential producer of strong athletic talent.

The sport of athletics has floundered in South Africa over recent years.
There is no effective system for long-term athlete development.  As such mechanisms are not in place for talented athletes to be identified and developed. Therefore athletes from poor or marginalized communities have little hope of achieving their potential.

These athletes are potential Olympic gold medalists and require ongoing funding.
